DIY 4-ingredient Edible Playdough

I'm back! After a few weeks of blogging hiatus, let me share one of Y's sensory materials that we've done together starting from the preparation to the actual activity.

DIY 4 Ingredient Edible Playdough
Here's how you can make an easy-to-prepare, no-fuss, edible playdough:

For one handful, you'll need:

1 cup of flour
1/4 cup of salt
1/4 cup of water
1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil

To add color, you may add 1-2 drops of your preferred food coloring.

  1. Mix the dry ingredients (flour and salt) first and stir until you get an even mix.
  2. Pour in water and knead until you achieve a batter-like texture, then add oil gradually.
  3. Knead until you get a lump-free dough. Add a few drops of your preferred food coloring.
  4. If the dough seems too dry, add a few drops of water. And if it turns out to be too sticky, add some more flour. .
This play dough entails hours of endless fun. My toddler spends hours pounding, rolling, smashing, separating, and even throwing the dough. The dough itself can last for a few days to a good week, as long as it is stored in a saran wrap and refrigerated.

  1. I also tried making homemade playdough before except I didn't put any food coloring. My daughter enjoyed pounding and making shapes out it too. When her commercial play dough runs out, maybe I'll make again.
