Rave: Bumgenius Cloth Diapers (and where to get them in the Philippines)

We have been exclusively on cloth diapers since Y turned a month old. I've devoted countless hours to research ( trial-and-error: I test different brands, soakers/inserts, and even laundry detergents) to rule out what works best for Y and for our lifestyle.
Bumgenius nappies have always been our workhorse diapers. Some our BGs are already almost a year old, but they work just as efficient as the first time we used them.
Here are a few of our Bumgenius nappies!

I started hoarding cloth diapers even before Y was born. I knew immediately that I had to get my hands on some Bumgenius  because I could only read raves about this brand.
Bumgenius is a brand from Cotton Babies -a US-based, family-owned company which focuses mostly on cloth diapers and cloth diapering-related products. One-sized (one size fits most) Bumgenius diapers come in three variants:  5.0 (pocket-type), Freetime (All-in-One), and Elemental (organic All-in-One). Bumgenius Littles are one-sized diapers for premies and newborns.
As of the moment, we have predominantly 5.0s and a few Freetimes. We first used our BGs for nighttime when Y got big enough to fit into the smallest rise-snap setting. He was around 6 weeks then. Being a medium-to-heavy wetter, Y would sleep through the night uninterrupted because there would be no leaks from his diapers.
Finding love at first sight with its performance, we hoarded more pockets and AIOs and even paid the market value for limited edition prints.

This was the first day Y used his BGs!

Here are a few pros and cons we found in using BGs as our everyday nappies:

Pros

  • The PUL material (outer lining) of BGs is not prone to delamination and fading. Our prints still look good as new!
  • Pockets (5.0s) come with 2 microfiber inserts -1 one-size and 1 newborn insert. We have always used these 2 together as the smaller (newborn) insert acts as a booster to the larger.
  • Getting rid of stains on the inner lining is a breeze! BGs' inner lining is made out of suede and I've never had a problem with removing stains  (even tough EBF stains).
  • Because it so easy to achieve the perfect fit with BGs, they are essentially leak-proof.  Y was a little chunkier when he was an infant, and BGs provided a snug fit around his thunder thighs.

Cons

  • Chunky babies can easily outgrow the OS pockets easily as the side tabs do not have a lot of give.
  • If you are just starting out with cloth diapering, you might find Bumgenius nappies a little bit too pricey. 5.0s cost around Php 800; Freetimes and Elementals are around Php 1000 each. But trust me, IT IS WORTH the investment in the long run.

Where to get Bumgenius in the Philippines

In the Philippines, there are several authorized retailers of Bumgenius (and Flips):
  1. Tickled Bum (http://www.tickledbum.com/)  of Mommy Leah
  2. Fluffypwets (http://www.fluffypwets.com/) of Mommy Tina
  3. VShopKids (http://www.vshopkids.com/) of Mommy Jai
I have personally puchased from Tickled Bum and VShopKids and both retailers are owned by very accommodating moms.
Bumgenius nappies can be traded/bought off of moms on Facebook, too! I have also bought (limited edition prints) from monthly Buy/Sell/Trade albums of local cloth diapering groups:  Cloth Diaper Addicts PH and Modern Cloth Nappying Pinays.
